letters the word "QUESTION" in the subject box.
Q - Last month I noticed that my clock was several hours behind and I set it to the proper time. Today when I turned on my computer I received the message that the time and date required setting and that I should press F2 to entry setup mode or F1 to continue. What is causing this and is it hard to correct?
A - Sounds like your battery is becoming weak or about dead. On the motherboard there is a button battery about the size of a nickel. Replacing it should correct the problem.
Q - I recently had my computer in the shop to correct some issues and problems. When I got it back I found out that I can't connect to the internet. Did I do something wrong?
A - Probably not if you or whoever connected everything correctly. I would check all of my cables, especially those connecting your computer to the internet (phone, DSL, ethernet). If all of the cables appear to be correct, look at your modem, are all of the lights on? Does it appear to be working? If all of these questions are answered "yes" check your device manager for yellow marks over any ethernet net or modems. If you find any question marks or the likes (in yellow or red) the drivers or related part will need to be reinstalled. Contact your repair company if you aren't able to perform this yourself.

A - Q - How did you choose, select or come up with the business name of Alegna (a-leg'na) Consultants. Does it have any special meaning or stand for anything?
A - Many people have asked me and our technicians this question. Here are the answers. The latter part or name was easy. We are a computer consultants. We advise, instruct, guide and have tutored thousands of people regarding computers, computer selections, operations, pricing, upgrades and other perticulars, too numerous to mention. While watching the Oprah show my late wife (Angela) and myself noticed how Oprah has reversed her name for her business, Harpo Productions. We thought it was sort of neat. In case you missed it, Harpo is Oprah reversed. So after some examination of our names, it was decided that we would use Angela, reversed, and, pronounce it, a-leg'-na. Now according to the dictionaries we have checked, there is no meaning, nor word shown for Alegna. However, if you change it back, there is a meaning for "Angela." According to Webster's Dictionary, Angela is a female given name, arrived from a Greek word meaning messenger. Our message to you... call Alegna (a-leg'na) Consultants right now, for all your computer needs!
Q - Can I use DVD's to store pictures and information on?
A - Yes, if your computer or lap top has DVD (movies) capabilities. If all you have is a CD (music only) and not a DVD, then the answer is no. How can you tell the difference? Insert a movie and see if it plays. If it does the answer is yes, if it doesn't the answer is no. By the way, your system has to have a recorder or burner on it.
Q - What is the best media for backing up one's system or computer files?
A - For the most part it a matter of choice. Here at Alegna we utilize several. These include zip drives, flash drive, tape backup as well as CD and DVD's. Examine what you are wanting to backup, save or protect and then select the media that best suite YOUR needs. Dave, Sue and Harry may all have the same make and model computers but their needs are different. Select what is comfortable for you, not what someone else may or may not be using.
Q - What is a normal boot time for most computers?
A - This question is asked and addressed more than any other question. At Alegna, boot time is waited time from when you turn on your computer until you can actually use it. ALL COMPUTERS POST (power om system test). Nevertheless, a normal POST or BOOT time should fall within 1 to 2 minutes. So if you turn on your computer at 4:00 pm you should be able to type or use it by 4:02 pm. There are a variety of things, programs, music and etc that can cause a slow or delay in boot time. Many programs are automatically turned on when your computer boots. The more programs the longer the boot time. The worst or longest one we have experienced was 35 minutes. Yes, thirty-five minutes, whew! If you are familar with computers and their workings, this can be dealt with. If not we suggest you contact a service repair company or us to correct the problem.
Q - I am certain that my computer would record CD's and DVD's too at one time. However after it was picked up from a repair company, these features no longer work. What happened?
A - It sounds like the repair company omitted, removed or forgot to reinstall your program that allows you to record (burn) cd's and dvd's. I would simply return to them to have it corrected.
Q - I just purchased a LED mouse, do I still need to use a mouse pad?
A - No. A mouse pad is only needed for a mouse which utilizes a roller ball, which you can see if you turn it over and look at the bottom. The pad is used or required as the ball itself will not always roll on certain surfaces. Instead of rolling it might slide, thus causing unwanted movement of your mouse pointer, or, no movement at all. With a LED mouse, the light doesn't requires any friction or surface to roll on.
Q- Our power was out for approximately 2-3 seconds. Our computer merely blinked but remained on. However when I tried to access the internet I couldn't. What happen?
A- One or two things, if not both. First your computer probably needs to be rebooted. The main problem is probably your moden. It probably also needs to be rebooted (TURNED OFF FOR ONE MINUTE). Once this is done everything should be working again. If you are using a cable or some other high speed modem check that all lights (4) are on as they normally are.
Also note the color of the lights. All are normally green, if you have or see a RED light reboot or turn the unit (modem) off (1 minute) and then back on.
Q- My computer had been working just fine and then all of a sudden it stops, locks up and is just doing strange stuff. What is the matter?
A - Sounds like one of two things has occurred. One is that you have picked up some type of a virus. If you haven't been on line or using someone elses programs, you probably do not have a virus. If such is the case, it sounds like you have added a program or some programs (games or whatever) which are not compatible with your computer or your computer's operating system. Remove any new games or programs and hopefully your computer will return to it previous state,
Q - My mouse doesn't seem to respond like it did when it was new. When I move it, it seems to be slow or sluggish in its movement. Does this sound normal or am I just tripping?
A - No you are fine, your mouse is not. If it is not an LED mouse, it is probably dirty. Here is a quick fix. With your mouse turned up-side down, rotate the hole over the ball counter-clock wise. This will allow you to remove the ball. Clean the ball with a clean cloth and rubbing alcohol. Next, using a paper cliip, CAREFULLY, scrap the two bars located inside of the mouse. One controls vertical movement and the other control horizontal movement. The crud or dirt is simply that, a build-up of dirt. This slows and sometimes even prevents the mouse from moving. Depending on how bad the build-up was, you will notice an instant improvement of 100, 300 or even 1000 %. If this doesn't correct the issue, you can obtain a reconditioned mouse. Simply go to our contact page and then to Alegna's store.
Q - Our laptop has a problem charging the battery and sometimes it won't even work when it is plugged up... Can this be fixed or repaired?
A - Normally the answer in this case is no, purchase a new computer. Very few companies have the ability to resolder the AC connection to the motherboard. Most manufactures recommend that the motherboard be replaced which in itself is costly. Alegna will resolder the connection for a flat three hours labor $225. Another motherboard will cost approximately the same amount , plus labor ($175) to remove the old board and install the new board. So you spend $400 for a new motherboard usually without a guarantee or $225 at Alegna for repairs with a guarantee.
Q - My wireless keyboard stopped working for no noticeable reason and it was working fine just yesterday. What could have happened?
A - Most wireless devices such as keyboards and mouses have a battery either inside of the device, or in the device (transmitter) that connects the device to the computer. My first effort would be to find and replace the battery. Also, make certain that the device hasn't been disconnected, accidentally or otherwise, where it connects to the computer.
Q - We access our internet via DSL. Can we have two computers on DSL at the same time? If not how can we accomplish this?
A - No you can not have two systems (computers) using DSL at the same time. If you do, one or both modems will drop the third (DSL) green light, or, the green light will turn red. What you need for the second or more computers is a router (perferrably wireless). This is placed in between the computer and the DSL modem. The wireless card is placed on the second (or more) computer(s) which will connect to the internet, via the router. I suggest wireless as you won't be require to run cables here and there.
Q - We purchased a printer for our computer but it isn't being found. It is connected via USB port. What can we do or what is the problem?
A - Your USB port are either turned off or simply not working. Enter setup when your computer boots and select reset defaults. If this doesn't correct the problem call Alegna or a computer service company.
Q - I just purchased a computer and I want to get on the internet. What are my choices?
A - Cable, DSL and telephone modem in that order from the best or fastest to the slowest. We would advise either cable or DSL.
Q - My monitor seems dim at times and the color are not quite right, however if I tap or knock on the corner of it, everything returns to normal. Is my monitor getting ready to go out or can this be fixed?
A - Yes this can be fixed. Your monitor has what is known as some cold solder joints and any TV repair shop can correct this in just a few moments. We noticed this problem on certain monitors more than others, however we won't mention the brand (smiles).
Q - My computer is going slower and slower. When I first got it I was on line in few seconds and I could switch between programs effortlessly. What happen and can this be fixed or reversed??
A - If you have had your computer more than a couple or three years, you have probably added some programs and games to it and, have typed and stored data. You probably should defrag your hard drive (HD) once a year or every 18 months. This can be done by 1- double clicking my computer. (NOTE ** DOUBLE CLICKING REFERS TO THE LEFT MOUSE BUTTON - ONE OR SINGLE CLICKING REFERS TO THE RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON)
2- Single click C:\drive 3- Single click properties 4- single click tools and repeat for defrag.
I would also check and see how much of your hard drive is remaining, free space. If you have less than one (1) gig, this could cause a problem, especially if you are running Windows XP. If defrag does not help and/or your hard drive is limited, I would call us or your local service center right away. There are other issues that can cause a computer to run slow. Numerous programs running at the same time is also a common problem. If your computer is infected with spyware, this can slow your computer down by 50 to 75%.
Last but certainly not least is memory (RAM) random access memory. Most of todays games on CD require a large amount of memory to function correctly. Too little memory will slow the operation greatly. Some computers can have memory added, unfortunately, some can't. Contact your service provider to see which one you have.
Q Is there any danger or caution required for utilizing BOOT, STARTUP OR EMERGENCY disk?
A - For the most part no. Keep in mind that to boot from these disk, they should be inserted into the computer, prior to turning the computer on. It should also be noted that many of the newer computer be manufactured are doing away with the 3.5 floppy disk drive altogether. **NOTE**
**NOTE**
If and when using FDISK (a dos command) NEVER DELETE THE HD PARTITION. If you do... after creating another one and making it active, the HD (hard drive) WILL HAVE TO BE FORMATTED, thus erasing A L L data, programs, pictures, etc from your HD. This includes your operating system too. Windows 95, 98, XP etc. In most cases, if you need a boot disk to boot your computer, you probably also need a technician.
Q - I went to get on line and my modem had no lights but it is still plugged up... what is the problem now??
A - You have one or two possibilities. The first and the cheapest to correct is that your adaptor which powers your modem has failed. You can easily pickup a replacement at your nearby Radio Shack for usually under $20. The second option, a little more costly is that your modem itself has went bad. Again, you’re Radio Shack or most electronic stores can supply you with a new one. The cost for this will depend on your modem type. Standard DSL types run in the neighborhood of $50 - $75. Cable modems run from $75 - $125. If you're experiencing problems call 217-361-8981 and we will have you up and running in minutes.
Q - I recently purchased and installed a 500 gig hard drive, however when I access it in my property, it is showing a listing it as a 127 gig. What happen and how can it be corrected?
A - Your problem might be your operating system (o/s). In order for your computer to recognize the 500 gig (over 130 gig) you need to be running Windows XP, with a service pack (preferably of 2 or 3). Solution, upgrade to Windows XP with a service pack. Partition your new drive and then make it active. When you format it this time, Windows recognizes its correct size. If you're still experiencing problem check the instructions and FOLLOW them. Still having problems? Schedule a service call at 217-960-0962.
Q - Can files labeled as "READ ONLY" be edited and if so, how?
A - Under normal circumstances, a read only file is just that. A file that can only be read. Certain programs place certain under this blanket of protection to prevent them from being erased or mis-programmed. If these particular files happen to reside in Microsoft Word or Excel, they can be edited when the READ ONLY status is changed. Doing this requires several steps and should be done by a qualifided technician. One can make a copy of such file, paste it to a clean file (sheet) and then correct or edit the copy of the read only file.
Q- What can I do about POP UP's? Is there any way to prevent or eliminate them easily...
A - Make certain that a FIREWALL is installed and activated. Need one?Call us at (217) 960-0962 leave your message and we will issue you a username and password to download your own security antivirus and popup stopper. Q - Our internet all of a sudden stopped working, what’s wrong???
A - That's a good question with a variety of answers. First if we are talking about internet with a CABLE MODEM? If your connection is DSL or PHONE/COMPUTER modem, continue reading here. First... Turn off everything!! This includes the computer, any and all modems and any attachments connected to your computer. If your computer is connected to a LAN disconnect it too at this time. Once everything is disconnected and turned off, wait for approximately five minutes and then turn on your modem (if it's a stand alone) and then your computer. DO NOT TURN ON OR CONNECT ANY OR EQUIPPMENT OR ATTACHMENTS. At this point you can attempt to access the internet. If you are able to, all is well, if not... continue reading.
Utilizing the device manager in the control panel, under systems/hardware, check to insure that you have no yellow question marks, exclamatory marks or red "X" on any hardware. Especially hardware that related to internet and/or it's connections. If the above is true, we recommend you uninstall your ISP and then reinstall it with the disc which was originally provided. (the items with yellow will need drivers installed and any red "X" with need to be enabled) After reinstallation, turn off both the computer and your modem. Turn your computer on, followed by the modem, after the computer has rebooted. If all is well you will receive the follow message. "Windows has found new hardware... Windows is installing or locating drivers for new hardware... Your new hardware is ready to use. If you are still experiencing problem call us or your local technician.
Q - My computer doesn't play DVD, what's wrong?
A - Has it played DVD's before? There are a few computers that aren't equipped with DVD players. If it has played DVD's (movies) before, it probably needs cleaning. If cleaning doesn't correct the situation, it's possible it might need to be un-installed and re-installed. If your computer only has a CD-Rom, it can usually be replaced with a DVD player or even a DVD burner. NOTE... CD PLAYERS (music) DO NOT PLAY DVD's (MOVIES). However, DVD (movies) Players will play CD's (music)
Q - If my computer has a virus, will it still boot-up?
A- 99 times out of 100 the answer is NO! Practically all known viruses deal with the boot sector (POST) of your computer. Some deal with hard drive deletion but just about all prevents your computer from booting. If your computer will boot and enter windows, you more than likely don't have a virus. Another thing, if you aren't connected to the Internet, you probably haven't picked up a virus either, unless you are one of the few that's still using 3.5 floppies to exchange data.
Q - What is, or how can I tell the speed of my processor or computer. I recently purchased a used computer and I want to know exactly what it is. How is the easiest way to find out for myself?
A - That's simple... Select start - Control Panel - Systems - then select the GENERAL tab. Under it you will see the information you need listed under COMPUTER... If it is a Pentium it will state Pentium. The next line is the Pentium model 2,3 or 4. The CPU speed 2.80 GHz or whatever it is, followed by the memory speed and amount.
Q - I have a piece of equipment I wish to use but I no longer have the installation disc. Is there an easy way to the obtain drivers?
A - If you have internet access simply download the drivers from the internet. Check your system hardware for yellow question marks too. If any are found select update drivers via the internet.
Q - I turn my computer off by turning off the power strip (surge protector) to which my computer, monitor, printer and speakers are plugged into. Will this harm or damage my computer?
A - 99 times out of a 100, NO! There is always the chance of spiking the hard drive. We at Alegna would suggest that your computer is ALWAYS turn off properly by selecting START - TURN OFF COMPUTER - TURN OFF. There are times when all of us are running behind and are required to leave quickly. If the computer needs to be turned off quickly, then simply turn it off using the quickest means. Keep in mind that this should not become the normal means of shut down/turn off.
Q - My computer takes forever to boot, is there anything I can do to speed it up?
A - Unless you're utilizing an HP, normal boot time should be under 60 seconds and 30 would be super. One thing that will usually speed up your boot is turning off the variety of programs starting at the beginning of boot or following POST (power on system test). To suppress items loading at start, you will need to access msconfig. This is done by selecting start, then run, type msconfig, follow by the enter button. Under the general tab, change the normal startup to selective startup. This should shorten your startup/boot time by 50 to 75%. If your unsure of doing this yourself contact us or your local technician.
Q - How long should my lap operate when using my battery? I'm currently only getting about 30 to 45 minutes before my battery runs down?
A - It sounds like you need to replace your battery. Typically, your battery should last at least two hours and maybe four hours, depending on your battery type and size and the program(s) your running. Keep in mind that games are battery drainers! The laptops we utilize average between 3 and 4 hours.
Q - We have a desktop and a laptop computer. When viewing the hardware via the device manager, we've noticed that we have several yellow question marks on both devices. Is there an easy ways to rid this problem without a lot of effort or spent money?
A - If you have internet connections, it's usually a simple fix. If not, telephone us. (217) 960-0962. With internet capability, connect to the internet and then minimize it. Then click on the device with you yellow question marks. Select update drivers. When ask to connect to the internet, select yes. (note... this will sometime, require some time, depending on the device and the amount of searching required.) Be patience and wait, your drivers will load and install,,, removing the yellow question marks. If this doesn't work... call us!
Q - I have an old computer that I want to give to my one of my children, but I want to remove some personal file first. Is there an easy was to do this?
A - In removing or deleting any files, make certain they are your files and not
the computer's files. A letter in Microsoft Word may be deleted, but DON'T delete Microsoft Word. To remove a unwanted, unused, not needed file, simply right click the intended file. Select delete, and left click it away. Once you have finished, check the recycle bin and empty it also. Leaving trash in the recycle bin is just that, trash left behind.... Until you empty it, anyone can read it, reinstall it, or do whatever it is that they might want to do.
Q - Which is better when selecting a keyboard and mouse, hard wired or wireless?
A - Humm. It really a question of preference. If wires are of little concern then I stay with the hard wire. If wires are a concern, or, your computer's location is six feet or more from the keyboard, wireless sounds like what you need.
Q - There is and has been quite a stir about Windows XP, can I upgrade my present operating system to XP?
A - XP is a very stable operating system. If your computer is a Pentium 2 or higher, has at least a 10 gig hard drive with breathing room (3 or more gig remaining) your current system can be upgraded to XP. Alegna can do this in one hour or less. Be sure to obtain or request service pack 2 or higher.
Q- I accidentally dropped my laptop and broke the screen, is it worth getting repaired?
A - If your laptop is less than three years old I would have it repaired. Screen can usually be purchased for under $300 and at Alegna we only charge (one hour) $75 for labor to install it.
Q - I recently moved my computer and now I'm receiving a message stating I have a 301 keyboard error. What did I do wrong and how can I fix this?
A - You have accidentally reversed the keyboard and the mouse plugs. Turn off your computer and simply unplug both the mouse and keyboard. Plug the mouse where you had the keyboard and the keyboard where the mouse was. This will correct your error
Q - My computer's hard drive is small and I would like a larger one. Is this something I can do or should I seek a service center?
A - Hummm. If you are mechanically inclined you can probably handle it. If not we only charge a half hour labor but you pickup the hard drive. What size? We would suggest that you purchase the largest that you can afford with 80 gig being the smallest. Anything over 100 gig will cost about $.75 per gig. We also recommend Seagate for you self-doers.
Q - My monitor was working fine before moving it and now it's blank, has a streak or funny problems. What could have happened?
A - Turn it off, unplug it and then disconnect the cable going to the computer. Check the plug for bend pins. If one or more are bend they will need to be straighten. Be extremely careful as they can easily break off.
Q - My computer is slow, what can be done to speed it up?
A - First, we need to know what you mean by slow. Is this slow booting up? HP are known for slow boot, some taking two minutes. Is it slow processing? Sometimes adding more memory will correct the problem or simply cleaning and defragging the hard drive. If you're speaking of downloading then that depends on your internet connection method. A computer modem is the slowest. DSL is better but not the best and currently all cable modem are the fastest. When it comes to downloading, a brand new Sony, will perform slowly if connected via a computer or telephone modem. Sometimes, cleaning the "START" menu will correct the problem. A variety of programs and things are added to the start menu when we add programs and games to our computer. After a period of time it simply become overwhelming. We serviced one computer that took some thirty-five (35) minutes to boot. Entirely too long.
Q - We are about to purchase a new computer, who make the best and who would you recommend?
A - Everyone these days are manufacturing quality equipment. It makes little difference if you purchase an Emachine, Compaq, Dell, IBM, HP, Gateway or some other company. They all do the same thing the same way. Instead of looking at the features a computer offers, do this. Decide what it is that you need or will be doing and purchase the computer which will best meet your needs, while obtain as much for your money as you can. These days you want at least a 100 to 160 gig hard drive. At least 2 if not 4 USB connections, one Ethernet 10/100 plug. Everyone is into having a burner and it should have DVD capability (preferably playing and burning), at least 512 memory, a flat screen display 17" being the smallest. A keyboard with one touch button for internet access, email and yes, a volume control.
Q - What do you recommend as a printer for my home office?
A - Like deciding on a computer, decide what the major kind of printing you will be doing or need, then purchase a printer that will accomplish that. Keep in mind that there are several what we call throw away printers on the market. Another word, the printer can be purchased for under $50, but when you go to purchase ink, the ink will cost $70 to $85. Thus, you might as well purchase another printer. The cost of laser color printers are quickly falling too. If you do a lot or plan on doing a lot of printing, you might want to consider a laser printer. Over all the cost of printing on a laser can cut your printing cost up to 50% and possibly more if the printing is strictly black and white, without color.
Q - My mouse is slow and doesn't respond as it use to, do I need another?
A - Possible, but more than likely the rollers are dirty (gummed up). If you are using a conventional mouse and you turn it upside down, you'll notice a hole with a ball inside it. With your computer turned off, and the mouse upside down, carefully turn the hole counter-clock wise. The hole will come off and the rubber ball can be removed. Looking inside the mouse you will see two bar rollers and one smaller roller. All three will probably be covered with dirt. Carefully with a paperclip or toothpick, scrap the rollers to remove all of the dirt build-up that has gathered on the rollers. The rubber ball may be wiped with a towel moistened with rubbing alcohol. Place the ball back into the hold and then place the ball retainer (hole) back into the mouse, this time turning clock-wise to secure it. Your mouse should now respond as if it was new. If you get stuck, call (217) 960-0962
Q - My laptop has wireless capabilities but I can't seem to get it to connect, someone said that I should purchase a router?
A - A router will enable you to connect to your home computer but only while you are within 50 or so feet from it. Your laptop has wireless connection for various restaurants, hotels and companies that offer free internet via wireless networks. To utilize these, one must be at or close to the site and usually have a user name and password to access the site. Here at Alegna, we use wirelss cards from our cellular service company. Your laptop operates like a cell phone and you can assess the World Wide Web from anywhere at anytime. There is a monthly service charge.
Q - I moved my computer and now the sound isn't working. What could be the problem?
A - Check to see that you have the speakers plugged into the correct plug. Many newer computers have a microphone plug next to the speaker plug. Look on the task bar and see if you see a speaker icon. If you have one you have sound, check to see that your speakers (sound) aren't on mute. If so, turn the mute off. Turn the volume up. Reboot your computer. Still having problems... telephone (217) 960-0962.
Q - My monitor has strange color spots showing here and there, what is causing this?
A - Sounds like you might have small children in your home. Strange spots of color appearing on your color monitor (not flat screen) are caused when the monitor does not degauss at startup or when children place magnetic object next to the screen. Any TV repair shop can easily correct this for you.
Q - We were cleaning our computer utilizing a small brush around the power supply and other vents. When we finished we plugged every- thing back up and our computer would not turn on. What's wrong?
A - We can only hope... While looking at the power supply, around the area where the power cord attaches. You will see a slider switch (usually red) one side states 115v the other states 220v. Check to ensure it is on the 110 to 115v side. If it isn't then change it back.
Q - We can't connect to the internet. We have a cable modem and all of the lights are on but we can't connect to the internet. What's wrong?
A - It appears to be one of two problems. First of all, turn off your computer and remove power from your cable modem. After approximately one minute power-up your cable modem. You should only see one light at first, this being the power indicator. If ALL LIGHTS come on together your cable modem needs to be replaced, or, the power adapter is leaking and needs to be replaced. Cost wise I'd try another adapter first. If the modem is furnished by the cable company, call them and they will send or bring one to you free of charge.
Q - My printer is acting crazy, is there a quick fix I can do?
A - It all depends on your meaning of crazy. If crazy like not wanting to print or only printing sometime or some of the material... YES! Go to the control panel, add or delete HARDWARE, and remove (delete) your printer. After it has been removed, re-install it. If crazy it because of missing color(s), try cleaning, followed by new ink if this is a ink-jet printer.
Q - Someone told me that AOL has free Internet. Have you heard anything about this? Is it true?
A - Yes, AOL does provide FREE internet, depending on the customer and their connection. If you are currently an AOL member and you currently have high-speed internet (cable or DSL) you might be able to receive AOL FREE. You need to contact AOL via the Internet, while logged on and go to the billing option on your screen. You will need to make some decisions and these are NOT reverseable! So think before you jump.
Q - We brought a few games but our computer doesn't seem to want to play them and some won't play at all. What can be the problem?
A - Many of the newer games today require more memory and a faster processor. If you are running a Pentium 2 or slower with 256 or less memory, many games will not function on your machine. Also, if you are still running Windows 95 and/or 98, some games won't play on your computer. When buying games, look on the side panel for the recommended specifications or requirements. Games such as 'WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE - DEAL OR NO DEAL have higher requirements. XP and a

Q - I was at a MC Donald’s last week and I noticed a sign stating " WI-FI" Does this have anything to do with computers?
A - Wi-Fi is a wireless LAN (Local Area Network) used by PDA's and Laptops to connect to the internet. Many restaurants and hotels make the Internet available to their customers via Wi-Fi technology. Our company uses 3-G and GPRS but these are billed monthly. Wi-Fi are usually always FREE but you have to be at or close to that location to use them. Some also need and require a username and password to log on. These are issued by the company or restaurants supplying the Wi-Fi for their customers.
Q - How long... or what is a normal boot time for a desktop computer?
A - It varies from brand to brand however, most computers will within one (1) minute. HP usually two (2) minutes boot time. If your computer takes longer than five (5) minutes to boot, you should have it checked. We measure boot time as the amount of time it takes your computer to POST until you can use it. Another words, how long do you have to wait, after turning your computer on, before you can actually use it. By the way POST stands for Power On System Test. This is performed by your computer each time you turn it on.. Spyware can increase POST or boot time by 200 percent.
